Today I’m going to be talking about how to take several layers in PSE and manipulate them, all at once.
This is a great trick to have up your sleeve, and I find it especially helpful when resizing alphas, or moving several elements around at once.
I’m new to PSE {a former Paint Shop Pro 9 user} and so to have a feature like this is just AWESOME to me!
Lets get started.
I’m going to be showing you various things on a layout I’ve done using Trixie Scraps newest kit release “Defining Me” which you can pick up at ScrapMatters. Currently her “Defining Me: Bundle” is a STEAL of a deal only until April 16th though!
First of all, make sure you’ve added your alpha to your page, and arrange them in the way you’d like to present them. I’ve put mine in such a way that they are not all on the same level or distance apart.
Now, to select all your letters you can do one of two things:
1. Hold shift and click with your mouse on each letter on the IMAGE itself.
OR
2. Hold Ctrl and in your layers pallet you can select each alpha layer
See how all the layers are highlighted in your layers pallet? That’s what you want it to look like.
Next, lets manipulate them however you want. Make them smaller or larger. You can also Rotate them however you so please and they’ll all stick together.
Now, lets add a shadow to all those letters at once. You ready?!
1. Find an element and create a shadow that you would like to have on your alpha. Now, right click on the layer in your layers pallet, and select “Copy Layer Style”
2. Now Re-Select all your alpha layers
3. Right click on the highlighted layers in your layers pallet, and select “Paste Layer Style”
VOILA! Your whole alpha is shadowed!
I will do this with all my layers, and then modify the shadows individually, as needed. Major time saver!
Now move your alpha {all at once} to where you’d like it placed on your layout. And you’re done!
The great thing about this trick, is that it can save you time. ALSO, if you’ve created a cluster you just LOVE, and want to move JUST THE CLUSTER, you can do that by using this trick. The layers don’t have to be next to each other in the pallet.
So, go ahead and give it a try, play around with it, and show me your layouts! I would love to hear your feedback! Once I found this trick, I knew it was something that I had to use, and I DO, ever time I scrap.
