Make it Hybrid Monday: Make A Wish Birthday Card Tutorial

Hello Trixie Scraps fans! Don’t you just love receiving handmade cards? I know I do. Well, I figured with my son’s birthday coming up, it’d be the icing on top of the cake to make him a sweet handmade birthday card.

For this project, I used Rise to It Kit. I just love how versatile the colors and paper patterns are for both boys and girls.

To begin, you will need:
White Cardstock
Digital Kit of Choice
Paper Cutter/ Scissors
Scoring tool/ Bone Folder
String or Yarn
Adhesive

1. First create your 5×7 inch rectangular shape in Photoshop. Clip your background paper of choice to it. I choose a neutral background. Place a stroke of 3 pixels around it.

2. Create your sentiment using alphas or fonts of choice.

3. Rotate your card 90 degrees. Copy the 5×7 inch shape and background layers onto a new layer. Place it above the front of the card. This will be the back of your card. Print out the card on white cardstock.

4. Print out the card on white cardstock and cut it out. Using your scoring tool, score the card down the center and fold it.

5. Now let’s make the candles. On a blank document in PSE, create several 2.5 x 10 inch rectangular shapes. Clip your papers to it. You can print 3 of these paper strips per 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Repeat the same patterns or mix and match, it’s up to you. Since my son is turning 3, I only needed one sheet for 3 candles.

6. Print and cut out the paper strips you just made. Cut your string into 3 inch pieces. Apply adhesive to the entire blank side of the paper strip. Now place your string on the outer edge.

7. Roll your paper strip slowly and tightly. Once you’ve finished this, you’ll have a neat paper candle! Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the rest of your paper strips.

8.  Glue the candles to your card in a line. Now your card is complete! How perfect?

I’m sure the recipient of your newly made birthday card will love it! If you create anything hybrid with Trixie’s designs, please share with us in any of her galleries, we’d love to see them. Happy Crafting!
