Hello everyone! Are you finally settling into 2011? It’s been a difficult adjustment for me, I still write 2010 on all my checks! This week, for the Sunday Spotlight I am interviewing a fellow Trixie Scraps Special Agent, Sharon Kay!
Hi Sharon! Why don’t we start with telling us a little about yourself and your family…
I have been married to Steve for 26 years. We have 3 sons … Scott (22), Tony (16), and Brian (15) and one dog named Sparkles. I homeschool the two teenagers and the oldest is attending DeVry University for graphic arts. Scott earned the Boy Scout Eagle award. We are on a homeschool robotics team that we love!
And how did you get started in digi-scrapping?
I started paper scrapping 17 years ago … but got frustrated when I couldn’t find 6×6” basketball papers and smaller elements for the size album I wanted to do. I created basketball scrapbooks for my son and his 2 coaches and I got so sick of the same old papers every single month (I scrapped every game!). I turned to the internet to see if there was anything being done in the digital world … and I was instantly hooked! I believe I started digi scrapping in September 2005.
If you could only have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Mexican. I’m guessing you don’t mean ONE TYPE but one particular … I would say chicken fajitas … my favorite meal to fix and to eat in restaurants.
Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions?
Well this goes back to robotics as most of our roads seem to lead there … yes one resolution. To get all my Disney photographs from 2009 scrapped before our robotics team goes to compete at Disney Sports in April!! I rarely make resolutions … but I needed a deadline to work on to get those finished.
Which Trixie Scraps kit is your all-time favorite?
I would have to say the First Feast is my favorite, although right at the moment I have my eye on Just Like Dad and I have a feeling it will quickly become my new favorite.
What do you do when you’re not digiscrapping?
I am a mentor for the Metro Homeschool Robotics team. My teenagers are on the Metro Homeschool Robotics team which we devote about 9 months of the year to attending meetings and competitions. Our team took 1st Place BEST Award at the BEST Robotics National Competition in April 2010 and this year we will be attending the World Championship! We have FIRST robotics kickoff on January 8th and will have 6 weeks to build our robot before the competition in March followed by the BEST World Championship in April! To give you an idea of our commitment … we drive 1 ½ hours round trip to robotics 4 times a week for 9 months because we believe so much in what robotics has to offer these children. We spend about 22 hours per week in meetings plus fundraising, promotion of BEST, competitions, and other team commitments. I would say that is about all I have time for! lol
Where do you find your scrapping inspiration?
I would actually say my boys are my inspiration to scrap … but my scrapping inspiration usually comes from templates … I love templates!
In a fight, who would win, Luke Skywalker or Harry Potter?
Oh most definitely Harry Potter!
Could you please share your favorite layout with a Trixie Scraps kit?
I think my favorite is the Starbucks mug insert I made for myself … because every time I use my mug it makes me smile.
…and all those clocks on the side … that is what our Thursday commitments are like!

I just wanted to say hi! from another FIRST Robotics mom! Not sure which group your son/daughter is in, but my son has done FRC – this is his last year as he is graduating. Looking forward to a fun season and the change from Atlanta to St. Louis. ~Joan

Well hello Joan! What a surprise!
Our sons are on Team 1825 Metro Homeschool Robotics team out of Kansas City. The new challenge looks very intriguing! I can’t wait to see what the kids come up with!
